Five years into producing this impressively popular wine Bartho Eksteen, winemaker at Hermanuspietersfontein, reveals the secret to the success of this wine.
“We select specific vineyards to produce this wine,” says the Diners Club 2010 Winemaker of the Year. “Bloos is a deliberate wine and we employ specific techniques, such as juice blending and subtle wood fermentation, to make her a blush wine.”
Eksteen reports this is the first ever ‘blush wine’ in South Africa and it originates from their BWI Champion conservation farm in the cool climate Sondagskloof ward. “To style this ‘blush wine’ we use all five Bordeaux varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot – to reflect the unique terroir we are blessed with. It is our responsibility to walk the extra mile and this wine confirms our belief that Good Earth makes Better Wine.”
With Hermanuspietersfontein Boerdery’s younger vineyards starting to come into production, the cellar is now able to produce more of this sought-after wine - which should please fans of this young lady.
Bloos 2011 – ‘n wyn in ‘n klas van haar eie
Vyf jaar nadat Bartho Eksteen, wynmaker van Hermanuspieterfontein, hierdie baie gewilde wyn begin maak het, onthul hy nou vir die eerste keer die geheime tot haar sukses.
“Ons kies spesifieke wingerde om hierdie wyn te produseer”, sê die Diners Club 2010 Wynmaker van die Jaar. “Bloos is 'n doelbewuste wyn en ons volg ‘n proses van sapversnitting en subtiele houtfermentasie om van haar ‘n ‘blooswyn’ te maak.”
Eksteen vertel dit is die eerste ‘blooswyn’ in Suid-Afrika en is afkomstig van hul BWI Kampioen bewaringsplaas in die koelklimaat Sondagskloof wynwyk, naby Stanford. “Om hierdie wyn te maak het ons al vyf Bordeaux variëteite gebruik, nl. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot en Malbec - om die unieke terroir waarmee ons geseënd is te reflekteer. Dit is ons verantwoordelikheid om die tweede myl saam te loop en met hierdie wyn bevestig ons ons oortuiging - Goeie Grond Maak Goeie Wyn.
Met Hermanuspietersfontein Boerdery se jonger wingerde wat in produksie begin kom, is die kelder nou in staat om meer van hierdie gesogte wyn te produseer - wat die aanhangers van hierdie jong dame opgewonde sal maak.
