Sauvignon Blanc lovers can look forward to Hermanuspietersfontein’s September release date of their 2011 vintages of Nr.3 and Nr.7. For this cellar, whose grapes come from the premium cool climate Sondagskloof ward, the Sauvignon Blanc drought has been caused by wines always selling out long before the industry”s conventional September release date.
This "luxury problem" situation is about to change. With their BWI Champion Conservation farm increasing production, their 2011 harvest produced a significantly larger crop which fortunately translates into more wine available to both the local and international markets.
The cellar is celebrating its fifth birthday in September and both tasting room staff and sales agents think "more wine to sell" is the best birthday present they could have wished for.
Diners Club 2010 Winemaker of the Year, Bartho Eksteen, concurs, “We enlarged the cellar’s capacity recently in anticipation of the young vineyards producing to capacity. In the past we bought in large quantities of Sauvignon Blanc grapes, but we were looking forward to this year’s bigger harvest, all from Sondagskloof, so that we could have complete control over our product. We got what we wanted and our dreams have been realised.”
Both these Sauvignon Blancs are from the cellar's classic range. Nr.3, a crisp wine with defined tropical fruit undertones derives from a single vineyard, whilst Nr.7 is a crisp and herbaceous wine with good minerality.
